Horse Management

Your horses live in two places in the admin. The Horses page (below) lists every horse with its status: for sale, for lease, stallion, our horses or boarded. That's where you add horses and manage their listings. Their daily care is kept in the Boarded Horses roster. That name can be misleading β€” it isn't only for boarders' horses. It lists every horse that lives at your stable, your members' horses and your own, whether it's for sale, for lease, a stallion or a school horse.

The Horses page lists every horse in your stable in one place, with tabs at the top to switch between views:

TabShows
AllEvery horse, newest first, including drafts
For saleHorses listed on your public sales page
For leaseHorses offered for lease
Our horsesStable-owned horses you can show on any page with a Showcase Grid block
StallionsStallions standing at stud (PRO, with stallion profiles switched on)
BoardedHorses boarded at your stable (when Stables is switched on)

Good to know:

  • Status chips on each card show at a glance what a horse is: Draft, For sale, For lease or Leased, At stud, Our horses, Boarded. A horse can have several. A sold horse is marked with a band across its photo.
  • Filters narrow the tab you're on. On For sale: Direct Sale, In Concession or Sold. On For lease: available or Leased. Once you have drafts, a Drafts filter appears on every tab.
  • Categories: on the For sale and Our horses tabs, once your horses have a Showcase Category, a second row of buttons splits the tab by category (All, Young Horse, Broodmare, …). Horses without a category are under Other.
  • Add horse from a tab starts the form with that tab's setting already ticked. For example, adding from For sale marks the horse for sale, and adding from Stallions sets it up as a stallion at stud.
  • Reorder Public Page is available on the For sale tab. Drag the horses into the order they should appear on your public sales page and click Save Order.
  • Some tabs link to a deeper page: Boarded to the stable roster for daily care, Stallions to stallion management, For lease to your lease contracts.
  • The tab you're on is part of the page address, so you can bookmark it or go back to it with the browser's back button.
  • Horses you've seen before appear instantly while the latest list loads.

What you manage for every horse

From the roster you keep the day-to-day care of all horses up to date, and see at a glance what needs attention:

  • Vaccinations β€” when each horse was vaccinated and when the next one is due. Filter the roster on due or overdue vaccinations.
  • Deworming β€” the same, for deworming.
  • Farrier β€” farrier (hoof care) visits, and callouts when a horse needs the farrier or the vet.
  • Cycles and pregnancies β€” log heat cycles and inseminations for your mares, mark a mare in foal and follow her due date. Filter the roster on Pregnant to see next cycle, sire and due date side by side.

How to log these is explained in Boarded Horses, Health Records and Mare Cycle & Pregnancy Tracking.

Presenting horses to the outside world

On top of the care every horse gets, some horses also have a public role on your website. Each has its own page:

HorsesWhat it's forGuide
Sales horsesHorses you sell, with price, photos and videosSales Horses
Lease horsesHorses you lease out, with lease agreementsHorse Leasing
StallionsStallions standing for breeding, for mare ownersStallions
Our horsesHorses you own but don't sell, lease or breed out β€” school horses, broodmares, retired horsesOur Horses

A horse can have a public role and still be looked after through the roster: a sales horse's vaccinations, for example, are kept up to date in exactly the same place as a boarder's horse.
