Our Horses
π Find this in the app: the "Owned by the stable" checkbox on a horse's form (Admin Panel β Horses β Add/Edit a horse) Β· shown on your website with the Showcase Grid block
Our Horses shows the horses your stable owns on your public website: school horses, your own broodmares, competition horses, retired horses and family horses. Horses you own that are also for sale, for lease or standing at stud are included too, so your whole herd is shown together.
Our Horses has no page of its own. You show these horses by adding a Showcase Grid block to any page in the Page Editor β your homepage, your training page, wherever they fit. Each block can show all of them, or just the categories you pick.
There's no separate switch to add a horse. A horse appears automatically once its profile meets a few conditions, explained below.
1. Turning It Onβ
Our Horses is a standard feature included with every stable, not a paid add-on. An admin switches it on from the Feature Flags page ("Showcase horses").
Switching it on doesn't put anything on your website yet. It makes the Showcase Grid block available in the Page Editor β see Showing Them on Your Website below.
Earlier versions had a separate public page at /our-horses. It has been removed. Anyone visiting that old address is sent to your homepage. If you linked to it from a button or menu, point that link somewhere else, or add a Showcase Grid block to the page you link to instead.
2. What Makes a Horse Appear Hereβ
A horse counts as one of Our Horses when it has been published (not left as a draft), "Mark as Sold" is unchecked, and one of these is true on its own profile (Sales Horses covers this same form field by field):
- "Owned by the stable" is checked. This is for school horses, breeding stock, and sales horses kept on your own account, not a boarder's horse. The horse stays in Our Horses even when "Horse is for sale", "Horse is for lease" or "Standing for breeding" is also checked: a broodmare you're selling appears with your other broodmares and on your sales page.
- Or the horse isn't owned by the stable, but a Showcase Category is picked (see below) and "Horse is for sale", "Horse is for lease" and "Standing for breeding" are all unchecked. That way a horse you sell, lease or stand on someone else's behalf is never shown as one of yours.
There's no "add to Our Horses" checkbox to look for β ticking "Owned by the stable", or picking a Showcase Category on a horse that isn't listed, is what does it. Mark the horse as sold and it leaves your Showcase Grid blocks.
3. Grouping Horses into Categoriesβ
Every horse's form has a Showcase Category field, in the Stable Information section. It's used in two places: on horses for sale it powers the category buttons on your horses-for-sale page (see Sales Horses), and on Our Horses it groups the horse in Showcase Grid blocks. On a horse that's sold, or that's for lease or standing for breeding without being owned by the stable, a note under the field says it isn't used for that horse. Use it to group the horse under a heading in Showcase Grid blocks, and to choose which blocks show it:
- Young Horse β unbroken or young stock not yet in regular work
- Broodmare β mares kept for breeding on the stable's own account
- Retired β horses retired from work or competition
- School Horse β lesson and school horses
- Family Horse β family or leisure horses
- Competition Horse β horses actively competed but not for sale
- Other β anything that doesn't fit the categories above
Picking a category also adds the horse to Our Horses, even when "Owned by the stable" is unchecked, as long as the horse isn't for sale, for lease or standing for breeding. For a stable-owned horse it's optional β leave it empty and the horse is saved as Other rather than hidden. These are suggested groupings, not strict rules β pick whichever heading best describes the horse to your visitors.
4. Filter Buttons for Visitorsβ
If a Showcase Grid block has horses in two or more categories, a row of filter buttons appears above the horses β one for "All" plus one for each category that actually has a horse in it. "All" is selected by default and shows every category stacked with its own heading. Clicking a category button shows only that category's horses β instantly, with no page reload.
If a block has horses in only one category, no filter row appears β there's nothing to filter between.
5. Showing Them on Your Websiteβ
- Open the Page Editor and choose the page where the horses should appear.
- Add a Showcase Grid block.
- Under Categories to show, pick the categories this block should show β or pick none to show every category.
- Save the page.
You can add several Showcase Grid blocks, each with its own categories. For example, a "Our broodmares" block on your breeding page that shows only Broodmare, and a "Meet our school horses" block on your training page that shows only School Horse. A block set to a single category leaves out the category heading β your block heading already says what it shows.
Clicking a card opens the horse's normal profile page β there's no separate "showcase" version of it. All settings are explained on the Showcase Grid page.
6. A Horse Isn't Showing Up β What to Checkβ
Open the horse's own profile and work down this list:
- Was the horse published, rather than saved as a draft?
- Is "Mark as Sold" unchecked? (This checkbox lives in the Sale Information section, which only shows while "Horse is for sale" is ticked.)
- Is "Owned by the stable" checked? If it isn't, the horse needs a Showcase Category, and "Horse is for sale", "Horse is for lease" and "Standing for breeding" must all be unchecked.
- Is the Showcase horses feature switched on for your stable, and is there a Showcase Grid block on the page you're looking at?
- Does that block's Categories to show include the horse's category? A horse without a category counts as Other.
What's Not Included Yetβ
"Owned by the stable" is a newer field, and it has not been automatically set on any existing horse β including ones you already think of as belonging to the stable. If your Showcase Grid block looks empty right after you turn the feature on, this is why: go through your existing horses and tick the box on the ones you want shown. There's no bulk "mark all my school horses as stable-owned" tool yet, so it's a deliberate, one-by-one choice per horse.
Common Questionsβ
- Can a horse be on Our Horses and also for sale? Yes, if your stable owns it. A stable-owned horse that's for sale, for lease or standing at stud appears in your Showcase Grid blocks and on your sales, lease or stallions page. A horse you don't own leaves your Showcase Grid blocks as soon as it's for sale, for lease or standing for breeding.
- Does a boarder's horse ever appear here? Only if you pick a Showcase Category for it and it isn't for sale, for lease or standing for breeding. "Owned by the stable" is specifically for horses on your own account β your school horses, your own breeding stock, and sales horses you hold yourself β so leave it unchecked for a boarder's horse, and leave the category empty if it shouldn't be shown.
- Where is Our Horses in my menu? There is no Our Horses page any more. Add a Showcase Grid block to any page instead β it's never added to your menu on its own.
- Can I show only my broodmares on one page? Yes. Add a Showcase Grid block and pick only Broodmare under Categories to show.
