Managing Stallion Profiles

Creating richer stallion profiles helps mare owners find the perfect match for their breeding needs. Instead of just a name and a photo, you can now capture the specific details that breeders look for when making their decisions.

Setting up a Stallion Profile​

To manage your stallions, navigate to the Stallions section in your Admin dashboard. When you add or edit a stallion, you can provide comprehensive details that will appear on the public directory.

Improves / known for​

This is the section that drives Match My Mare. Tick the traits the stallion is genuinely known for passing on to his foals:

  • Scope & power
  • Technique & carefulness
  • Blood & sharpness
  • Canter quality
  • Movement & elasticity
  • Rideability & trainability

Match My Mare is complementary — it ranks a stallion highly for a mare owner who asked for more of a trait you've ticked here, and shows a plain-language reason such as "Improves the canter". Tick only what's true of his offspring; over-ticking makes every match look the same.

Temperament & Suitability​

Breeders often weigh a stallion's temperament and rideability heavily when deciding if a sire is a good fit. In the stallion form, you can now specify:

  • Temperament: Tag each stallion's temperament using a curated list of traits (e.g., calm, sensitive, forward, easy-going, bold).
  • Rider Suitability: Specify whether the stallion (and his typical offspring) are best suited for amateur or professional riders.

These fields refine the Match My Mare ranking when a mare owner states the temperament or rider level they want, on top of the "Improves / known for" traits above.

Notable Offspring​

The performance of a sire's progeny is often the most convincing proof of his quality. You can add a list of Notable Offspring directly on the stallion's profile:

  1. Scroll to the "Notable Offspring" section in the stallion editor.
  2. Add a new row for each foal.
  3. Enter the foal's name, their notable achievement, and optionally their discipline.

This track record will appear as a dedicated section on the stallion's public page, right below his own achievements.

Stud Fee, Semen Availability, & Fertility​

Transparency regarding costs and logistics can naturally guide mare owners to the right stallions. You can provide the following breeding-specific information:

  • Stud Fee: Clearly display the cover fee for the stallion. This is kept entirely separate from any "sale price," ensuring there is no confusion.
  • Semen Availability: Indicate which semen types you offer (fresh, chilled, or frozen).
  • Fertility Note: Add a short, freeform note about the stallion's fertility (for example, "conception rate 85% over the last three seasons").

Optional Fields​

Every one of these new fields is entirely optional. If you choose not to fill in a stallion's stud fee, offspring, or temperament, those sections will simply remain hidden on the public profile.
