Breeding Overview

The Breeding module brings together everything your stable does around reproduction — tracking your own mares' cycles and pregnancies, presenting your stallions to mare owners, and handling the insemination inquiries that come back.

What It Does​

Mare cycle & pregnancy tracking​

  • Cycle tracking: Log heat cycles and insemination dates for any mare from a quick popup on her profile — see Mare Cycle & Pregnancy Tracking.
  • Pregnancy tracking: Mark a mare in foal, record the sire, and follow her due date. Pregnant mares are counted on the admin home page and you're notified when one is due.
  • Birth registration: When a mare foals, register the outcome and a draft record for the foal is created automatically, linked back to the dam with her pedigree pre-filled — see Registering a Birth.

Stallion presentation​

  • Present your stallions: Create dedicated, public profiles for each stallion, complete with their pedigree, performance records, and videos/photos — see Managing Stallion Profiles.
  • Highlight strengths & properties: Emphasize what makes your stallions unique, such as temperament, rider suitability, notable offspring, and semen availability.
  • Match My Mare: An interactive tool for mare owners to describe their mare and have your stallion directory re-ranked on the spot to show the best complement first — with plain-language reasons, never a score — see Match My Mare.
  • Receive insemination inquiries: Mare owners browsing the public directory can submit a breeding appointment request directly through the platform. Admins manage and respond to these requests from the Inquiries hub, alongside every other inquiry the stable receives — see Insemination Inquiries.
  • Covering records & confirmation PDF: Keep an internal, admin-only log of visiting mares bred to your standing stallions, and generate a branded covering-confirmation PDF for each mare owner — see Covering Records.

Availability​

  • Mare cycle & pregnancy tracking is available on every mare's records, wherever the internal stable-operations area (Stables) is switched on.
  • Stallion profiles, Match My Mare, and insemination inquiries are switched on per stable via the Stallion Profiles toggle on the Feature Flags page (a PRO feature). Once enabled, your stallions appear at /stallions. If your stable doesn't see a "Stallions" section in the admin panel yet, ask an admin to enable it.

Who It's For​

  • Stable owners who breed their own mares and want cycle and due-date tracking in the same place they manage every other horse record.
  • Stallion owners who want to showcase their stallions professionally and manage breeding appointment requests in one structured place, instead of losing track over emails or phone calls.
  • Mare owners who want to discover available stallions, verify their compatibility through transparent matching criteria, and request an insemination appointment without leaving the site.

What's Not Included Yet​

The stallion-presentation side focuses on presentation and inquiries. The following are intentionally out of scope for now:

  • Booking or payment processing for breeding appointments (inquiries are currently request-only).
  • Studbook submission or registration — covering records produce an internal stable confirmation only, not an official studbook document.
  • A per-stallion availability calendar.
  • AI or genetic match scoring (our Match My Mare feature is deliberately transparent and reason-based, rather than an opaque percentage score).
