Pregnancy Costs

πŸ“ Find this in the app: the heart icon on one of the stable's own mares that is in foal β€” Admin Panel β†’ Stables β†’ Boarded Horses (/admin/stables/horses)

Log what a pregnancy costs β€” stud fee, insemination, scans, vet checks, transport β€” on the mare's breeding record. Once the foal is born, those costs count in the foal's cost, so you can see what a foal really cost from insemination to sale.

Pregnancy costs are part of Horse Costs, a PRO feature: turn on Horse costs (and Finance) under Settings β€Ί Configuration. Only your stable's own mares get a pregnancy cost block; a boarder's mare never does. Only administrators see the amounts.

Logging the costs

Open the mare's breeding popup. Once her insemination is saved, a Costs for this pregnancy block appears under it, with the running total excl. VAT.

Costs for this pregnancy, in the mare's breeding popup

  1. Pick the method (fresh semen, frozen semen or natural cover) and the stallion: one of your own stallions, or "Another stud's stallion".
  2. Tap + Stud fee. For one of your own stallions, the amount is filled in from his stud fee for that method. The date is the insemination date, and it is marked Invoice not received yet until you tap Invoice in.
  3. Add the rest as it happens with + Log a scan or check (pregnancy scan, vet check, insemination) or + Other cost (transport, anything else). Enter the amount excl. VAT, the VAT rate and the date; a note is optional.

You don't need to do anything to start or end a pregnancy record: saving the insemination starts it, and registering the birth closes it. If you remove an insemination by mistake and put it back, the costs you had logged come back too.

After the birth

When you register a live birth, each foal's cost includes the pregnancy's costs:

  • One foal carries all of them.
  • Twins share them: each foal carries half of every line, to the cent.
  • Stillborn or lost: there is no foal to carry them, but they still count in the breeding reports, because a lost pregnancy is part of what your foals cost.

The costs stay on the pregnancy itself, so a stud fee invoice that arrives or changes after the birth is right on the foal straight away. You can confirm, correct or delete these lines later from the foal's cost page. For twins, deleting a line removes it for both.

The mare's own keep while she is in foal is not added to the foal: it stays on the mare, and shows in her breeding results.

The foal's cost page

A foal born at your stable needs no arrival details: its costs start on its birth date, with keep at grass at your stable’s grass rate (a flat fallback rate until you set one). Tap Costs on the foal to see:

  • Cost at each age β€” what it had cost at birth, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years and today.
  • Its lines in two groups: After birth (its own costs) and Before birth Β· the dam's season pregnancy (its share of the pregnancy, marked "share of €… (twins)" for a twin).

A foal's cost page: cost at each age, then the costs before and after birth

The foal's export for your accountant includes its share of the pregnancy.
